Where the beat dropsOn the hard cut, about 4.75 s into the roughly 10-second clip

The sound was around long before the meme. The skull cap trend picked it up in October 2026: one of the earliest takes we found is from 6 October (@baldheadbrudda, 3.5M views), and posts by @connors_archives (12.9M), @antoniopieterss (12.4M) and @grumpyleanneandmaitland (10.7M) carried it, all with this sound.

Why this verse fits the cut

The format is one selfie with one hard cut. The before is bright and awkward while the cap goes on; then, at about 4.75 seconds, the lights go off and the hood goes up. That hard cut is where the beat drops.

So the sound does half the joke: the drop hits exactly when the cold after appears. A cut that lands a beat early or late feels off, which is why takes stick to this sound and line it up with the cut.

How to add the sound in TikTok

For your own clip, or a Skull Cap AI video you downloaded with the song switched off:

  1. Open the sound page in the TikTok app and tap Use this sound, then upload your clip.
  2. Or upload your clip first, tap Add sound in the editor and search "SoulReligion". Pick "original sound - SoulReligion".
  3. Drag the sound until the beat drop lands on your cut.

Using TikTok's own sound, rather than a song baked into the file, is also what links your post to the trend's sound page.

On Instagram Reels, the TikTok sound isn't there. Search "Wild Thoughts" in the audio picker and start it at Bryson Tiller's verse so the drop lands on the cut.

Skull Cap AI videos come with the sound

On our homepage, one photo of you becomes the whole 10-second clip: awkward in a bright room, cap pulled down, hard cut at 4.75 s and the cold stare in the dark. The video comes with the trend sound already lined up, so the drop lands on the cut. You have two options:

  • Keep the sound. Download the MP4 and post it as it is.
  • Use TikTok's sound. Switch the song off on the finished video, download the silent MP4 and add the sound in TikTok as above. That links your post to the trend's sound page. The cut always sits at 4.75 s, so lining it up is quick.

Both are fine. The song belongs to its owners either way.

The full walkthrough, from photo to post, is in how to make the skull cap trend AI video. The pet version uses the same sound and the same cut.

Not to be confused with

  • The crochet skull cap fashion trend. Crocheted skull caps are a clothing trend of their own, with no fixed sound or format. The meme here is about a plain black knit cap and a hard cut.
  • CapCut "skull edit" templates. Edits with skull effects or graphics are a different thing. The skull cap trend has no skulls at all: "skull cap" is just the name of the close-fitting beanie.
