If your feed has guys in glasses pulling on a black beanie and then, a hard cut later, staring into the camera in the dark with their hood up, you've seen the skull cap trend. Here's what the meme is, where it came from, which sound it uses and how to make your own.
The meme in 10 seconds
The caption says it all: "How dudes act 0.01 seconds after putting on a skull cap." A skull cap is a close-fitting knit beanie with no brim. The video is one selfie with one cut:
- Before. A bright room and a deliberately dorky look: often glasses, a plaid shirt and an awkward smile. He holds up a black skull cap.
- Cap down. He pulls the cap down over his head.
- Hard cut at about 4.75 seconds, right on the beat drop.
- After. The same room in the dark. Black hoodie, hood up over the cap, glasses gone, hands holding the hood, a cold stare into the lens.
The whole thing runs about 10 to 11 seconds. No words. The joke is how much a single piece of knitwear changes the attitude.
Why it works
It's a glow-up joke turned up to a hundred. The before is played as uncool as possible, the after as moody as possible, and the cut lands exactly when the music hits. The comments do the rest: people joke about "masc potential" and say the after shot "looks like Marlon". It works for almost anyone, which is why it spread from teenagers to dads, couples and, soon, dogs.
The sound
The trend runs on a TikTok sound called "original sound - SoulReligion", uploaded in 2023. It's Bryson Tiller's verse from DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts" (featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller). More than 83,000 videos use it. You can find it on its TikTok sound page.
If you make the video with us, it comes with this sound, lined up so the beat drops on the cut. You can also switch it off and add TikTok's own sound when you post, which links your video to the trend's sound page. The steps are in how to make the skull cap trend AI video.

How people make their own
The usual way is to film it: a black skull cap, a black hoodie, a bright shot, then the lights off and a second shot, cut on the beat. It's simple, but you need the props, two lighting setups and a clean cut.
The other way is ours. On our homepage, one photo of you becomes the whole 10-second video: awkward in a bright room, cap pulled down, hard cut at 4.75 s and the cold stare in the dark with the hood up. The motion comes from a depth map of @antoniopieterss's take, so the cut lands on time. Your face comes from your photo. If your photo has glasses, they come off after the cut.
The video is 9:16 with no watermark and comes with the trend sound, lined up with the cut. One video is $4.99 with no account. Our own sample renders, each next to the AI photo it came from, are on the examples page.
The dog version
On 25 October 2026 the trend reached pets: a young man holds his puppy up to the camera, and after the cut both wear skull caps. On our dog and cat version, one photo of your pet is enough; the AI makes up the young man who holds it.
